Hey everyone,

Fall is just around the corner but I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet...

Last month we hosted a garden party with a #CrazyRichAsians themed. Believe all the hype about this film. It was hilarious, colorful, and such a good romantic comedy. I can’t tell you what it meant to see so many Asian faces on screen as the main characters and no mention of martial arts! UHHH WHAT, SHOCKER! I’m so happy it crushed the box office and they’ve already gotten the green light to make the 2nd installment of the trilogy!

CRAZY RICH MENU:

Slammin' Salmon, Rib-eye Steak, Grilled Bok Choy, Curry Cauliflower

Compliments to Chef Lukas for cooking an incredible feast, Shirley for indulging our sweet tooth with her amazing jam cookies and mochi dessert, Frank for his addicting mojitos, and Cyndi/Suzanne for the beautiful flowers!

FUN & GAMES:

We ended the night with a fun and competitive trivia game. 10 rounds of questions relating to Crazy Rich Asians, pop culture, history, and geography that got everyone involved. Congrats to the winning team, The Labradoodles! Lai Ying, Gowri, Felix, Tony, and Sophia ---your next Judy’s pop-up is on us :)

THANK YOU:

Again, thank you to everyone who came by and for all your support. We truly love bringing people together and building community through food. Life is just more fun with full bellies and good vibes. <3

With love,

Kim & Lukas

Thank you to all our guests for coming out on a rainy evening to celebrate the pop-up launch of Judy’s BBQ. Your early support will go a long way in helping us make our dream to #brickandmortar a reality!

Highlight of the Night

Months back when we were first brainstorming names for the restaurant and decided to name it after Lukas’ grandmother, Judy, we told everyone to keep it a secret from her until our launch. The real truth is we didn’t want to tell her because we were afraid she wouldn’t like being in the spotlight like that. We thought she would object, get angry, say “I don’t even cook barbecue”, and tell us to change the name.

There’s a reason people believe in the saying,

"It's better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission."

How the Surprise Went Down

In front of Judy, Lukas told guests an endearing story of his earliest memories learning to cook by her side. While his grandfather, Anthony, taught him the more traditionally "masculine" tasks like cleaning and gutting fish, Judy really taught him the nuances of cooking. While she has always been his inspiration, he had never articulated this to her in such a public way. It made it all the more moving to witness their tender moment and see her so genuinely happy!

From "Listen to me. What is going on" to ALL SMILES with grandmother and grandson.

The Spread

We had over 16 items on our buffet lineup that included our signature dishes like the Pulled a Shoulder, K-Ribs, Slammin’ Salmon, Shirley's Cookies, tasty salads, sides, and more. You can read reviews from guests here!

Much Love to Everyone Involved

Cooking for 80 people will always be a labor of love and we have so many people to thank:

  • Mei Mei for graciously hosting us

  • Andre, Winson, and Caden from Mei Mei staff who were all superb

  • The core Judy’s team of Thea, Shirley, and Fred

  • All of you for inviting your friends! “Thank you! You are so cool!” (^_^)

Moving Forward

We hope you enjoyed the food, company, and evening and that you’ll keep JUDY’S in mind for your catering needs and private parties. Please reach out to us with any questions. See you at the next pop-up!

With love,

Kim & Lukas
